Omarosa’s ‘Unhinged’ Tops New York Times Best-Seller List

Omarosa Manigault Newman’s Trump tell-all, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House, has reached the top spot on the New York Times best-seller list.

The victory for the Apprentice alum and former White House staffer comes after a fiery media tour in which Manigault Newman spoke out against President Trump and his administration and released headline-grabbing audio clips from her time working as a former adviser to Trump.

Aside from besting the New York Times‘ list, Manigault Newman’s tome currently holds the No. 2 spot on Amazon, just behind Rachel Hollis’ self-help book, Girl, Wash Your Face.

Manigault Newman’s publisher, Gallery Books — an imprint of Simon & Schuster — reacted to the success of Unhinged in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday morning: “We’re delighted that readers have responded enthusiastically to Unhinged. It is selling well in all formats — print, e-book and audio. Omarosa continues to promote the book and is committed to sharing her story.”

Manigault Newman sparked controversy earlier this month in a string of interviews promoting Unhinged. While speaking to Meet the Press‘ Chuck Todd, the TV personality addressed a rumored tape of Trump saying the N-word.

“I have heard the tape. I know it exists and what I regret is that these people are trying to leverage it as an October surprise. I don’t want to be a part of it,” she said. “Once I heard it, it was confirmed what I feared the most: Donald Trump is a con. It confirmed he is truly a racist.”

Trump’s alleged use of the N-word does not appear in Manigault Newman’s book, as she had finished writing it before she heard the tape. However, the author — who joined the Trump administration in January 2017 as a White House communications director and left after a year — does detail her firing by Gen. John Kelly in Unhinged.

During her interview on Meet the Press, Manigault Newman defended her decision to secretly record that conversation with Kelly, along with Trump’s reaction to her termination. “If I did not have this recording, people would still believe the false story … that I tried to charge the residence of the White House,” she said. “If I didn’t have this recording, people would still think I was trying to set off alarms.” She has since released several other recordings to support claims made in the book.

In response to Manigault Newman’s multiple media appearances, Trump called her a “crazed, crying lowlife” and “that dog” on Twitter. In a later interview with MSNBC, Manigault Newman reacted to Trump’s racially charged insult. “He has absolutely no respect for women, for African-Americans,” she said, “as evidence by him instructing the chief of staff to lock me for two hours in the Situation Room, to harass me, to threaten me and say that.”
