This story first appeared in the Nov. 15 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
During the course of years-long research, biographer Sam Wasson, author of the definitive doorstop Fosse, published Nov. 5, came across a reference to a lost 1961 ABC special starring and choreographed by the legendary dance man.
Seasons of Youth, featuring a number about suicide called “I Don’t Think I’ll End It All Today,” had gone unseen and forgotten for more than 50 years until Wasson reached out to Paley Center for Media research director Jane Klain, who helped track it down within ABC’s archives. “Nobody had heard of it,” she says.
Sighs Wasson: “Because of what I did with Jane, there’s now a Fosse work that’s back on Earth. It’s kind of the coolest thing I’ve ever done.” The special now is viewable at the Paley Center.
