Dallas Cowboys special teams player C.J. Spillman is being investigated in a sexual assault claim, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Spillman has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the team’s hotel, the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, on Sept. 20. Spillman played for the Cowboys in their game the following day. The New York Daily News first reported the investigation.
“We received a report on the 20th of September involving Mr. Spillman for an allegation of sexual assault, and we are continuing our investigation,” said Sgt. Robert Eberling. “We do not have any further details to release at this time.”
The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The alleged attack took place just one day after embattled NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke to the public about the league having mishandled Ray Rice‘s domestic abuse incident. In the address, Goodell vowed that “the same mistakes can never be repeated.”
Last week, attorney Gloria Allred said in a statement that she is representing a client who was raped by an NFL player. Allred did not name the player, and it is not known if her client was a victim in this alleged attack. Allred did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

This is just the latest abuse scandal facing the NFL. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been deactivated from the team as he faces child abuse charges, while Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was arrested last month on domestic abuse charges.
