Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Tony Awards ProductionsTony winner Daveed Diggs is returning to the Public Theater, the venerable downtown New York stage institution where the actor first turned heads in the original cast of Hamilton.
Diggs will star with Sheria Irving, Zoe Winters and additional cast to be announced in the world premiere of Suzan-Lori Parks’ White Noise. The play centers on a woke and worldly group of longtime friends and lovers shaken by a racially motivated incident with cops that causes Diggs’ character Leo to turn to extreme measures for his self-preservation.
The Public’s artistic director Oskar Eustis will stage the production, which begins performances March 5 with a free first preview, ahead of an official opening March 20. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through April 14.

Parks is the Master Writer Chair at the Public, which last produced her critically acclaimed trilogy Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3). She won a 2001 MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant and the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama with Topdog/Underdog. Parks adapted the classic Richard Wright novel Native Son for Rashid Johnson’s film, which will premiere at Sundance in January, and also penned the screenplay for Lee Daniels’ upcoming directing project, The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
Since winning the 2016 Tony Award for best featured actor in a musical for his dual role as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, actor, writer and rapper Diggs has appeared in the films Blindspotting and Wonder, as well as a number of television projects, including Black-ish, The Get Down, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmdt and Snowpiercer.
He will next be seen in writer-director Dan Gilroy’s Netflix feature about the high-stakes art world, Velvet Buzzsaw, with Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Billy Magnussen, Toni Collette and Rene Russo.
