Tony nominee Andy Karl performed “Seeing You” from Groundhog Day The Musical at Sunday night’s Tony Awards.
Karl stars in the musical adaptation of the beloved 1993 movie, which starred Bill Murray as a misanthropic weatherman who gets caught in a time loop, replaying the same day over and over until he softens his cynical demeanor.
The Broadway show reunites much of the key creative team from Matilda: director Matthew Warchus, composer-lyricist Tim Minchin, choreographer Peter Darling and designer Rob Howell. The book is by Danny Rubin, who co-wrote the Columbia Pictures film’s screenplay with its director Harold Ramis, based on Rubin’s story. It earned seven Tony nominations.
Honoring the best of the Broadway season, the awards were handed out Sunday in a ceremony that aired live on CBS from New York City. Kevin Spacey made his debut as the annual event’s emcee.
