The Sunset Strip — a 1.5 mile stretch of West Hollywood pavement best known for its Rock ‘n’ Roll Clubs — is in the midst of a major overhaul as a wave of luxury hotels, residences, restaurants and retailers prepare to set up shop while other landmarks bid adieu.

Notable goodbyes include the House of Blues and Larry Flynt‘s Hustler Hollywood, while the introductions are historic: The James Los Angeles will mark the strip’s first ground-up hotel in 30 years, followed closely by the Edition, a Marriott property developed by Ian Schrager. Renderings of the latter will be unveiled to West Hollywood City Council members during a public hearing Oct. 20.
