In a new magazine interview, Jennifer Lawrence spoke out about using Planned Parenthood when she was younger.
The actress, who covers the latest issue of Glamour, was referencing the recent shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood, saying, “It isn’t an attack on abortions; it’s an attack on women.”
She said the women’s clinic provides “so much more” than abortion.
“My mom was really religious with me when I was young. She’s not so much anymore,” said Lawrence. “And I wouldn’t have been able to get birth control if it weren’t for Planned P. I wouldn’t have been able to get condoms and birth control and all these things I needed as a normal teenager who was growing up in a Jesus house.”
The Joy actress said she would go to Planned Parenthood for these things and then gestured to herself, saying, “And now, I am a successful woman who has not had a pregnancy.”
Lawrence has been speaking out increasingly often about women’s rights recently, making headlines when she talked about the gender pay gap in Hollywood.
“I keep going back and forth on being opinionated,” she told Glamour. She added, “It’s not smart, businesswise, to be opinionated. But then, what’s the point in having a voice at all if I’m not going to use it for what I truly believe in?”
