Following last season’s acclaimed productions of Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge and The Crucible, a top-tier cast is coming together for Roundabout Theatre Company’s upcoming revival of the playwright’s 1968 drama, The Price.
Hot off his role in the HBO limited series The Night Of, John Turturro will lead the cast as Victor Franz, who abandoned his dream of an education to support his father after the family fortune was lost in the Great Depression. The play explores Victor’s struggle to make peace with the past when he returns to his childhood home three decades later to sell what remains of his parents’ estate.
Tony Shalhoub will play Victor’s estranged brother Walter, a successful doctor, with Jessica Hecht as Victor’s wife, Esther. Casting of the play’s fourth role, a wily Russian furniture dealer named Gregory Solomon, remains to be announced.
Steppenwolf Theatre Company co-founder Terry Kinney will direct the production, which begins previews Feb. 16 at the American Airlines Theatre, officially opening March 16. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through May 7.
Turturro last appeared on Broadway as an actor in 2003 in Yasmina Reza’s Life (x) 3; he directed the trio of comedic one-acts, Relatively Speaking, in 2011. Shalhoub earned consecutive Tony nominations in 2013 and 2014 for his roles in Golden Boy and Act One, respectively. A Tony nominee in 2010 for Miller’s A View From the Bridge, Hecht currently is appearing in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof, which closes Dec. 31.
Roundabout has a long history of producing Miller’s plays, most recently with After the Fall in 2004 and The Man Who Had All the Luck in 2002. The company previously staged The Price in 1992, with Hector Elizondo as Victor Franz.
