Dame June Whitfield, whose career spanned decades on radio and television, has died, according to multiple British outlets citing her agent. She was 93.
A request for more information from The Hollywood Reporter was not immediately returned.
Whitfield died peacefully Friday evening, her agent told media outlets.
Among her most beloved work was the cult favorite Absolutely Fabulous, which ran from 1992 to 2012 on the BBC. She also starred on the BBC sitcom Terry and June, which ran from 1979 to 1987.
Whitfield also appeared on Friends. More recently, she appeared on Boomers as Joan.
Julia Sawalha, who played her granddaughter on Absolutely Fabulous, said Whitfield was a “great source of inspiration.” She tweeted in tribute of the late star: “Thank you #damejunewhitfield,for teaching me my craft with such grace and dignity.I always wanted you to know how in awe of you I was, however, you were always far too humble to accept my http://adoration.You were a great source of inspiration to me. Television producer Jon Plowman, who worked on episodes of Absolutely Fabulous and its 2016 film version, told The Guardian of the actress: “There was no one with more warmth or a better ability to just ‘place’ a line, always an act of utter precision. Hit after hit! Take It From Here, Terry and June, Absolutely Fabulous over seven decades. A great loss.”
