Six more suspects in the Kim Kardashian robbery in Paris were indicted Friday on preliminary charges of armed robbery in an organized gang, among other charges, bringing the total number of people charged in the heist to 10.
The people indicted Friday are six of 17 suspects arrested Monday in the Paris area and Grasse, just outside Cannes in the south of France. Prosecutors identified the suspects as: Aomar A., 60; Pierre B., 72; Didier D., 61; Francois D., 54; Harminy A., 29; and Christiane G., 70.
The six appeared before a criminal judge in Paris, following the preliminary charges against 63-year-old Yunice A. filed Thursday. Yunice was charged with “armed robbery in an organized gang, kidnapping or forcible confinement and criminal association.” That suspect remains in custody.
Preliminary charges also were filed against four other people Thursday.
Of the original 17 suspects arrested Monday, three men and one woman have been released, including Kardashian’s driver Michael Madar.
Among those still in custody are the five who are suspected of having perpetrated the armed robbery, in which Kardashian was tied up and held at gunpoint. Two of them are expected to be brought before the judge Friday, including the ringleader of the group whose DNA was found at the scene. He was well known to officers, with a record dating back to the 1990s, and ultimately led police to the gang.
The charges in the case come just as Kardashian has returned to social media after a long absence following the robbery. She posted a series of retro-styled family photos last week before discussing the event in new promos for her television show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Kardashian was in town for Paris Fashion Week when the thieves stormed into her private apartment and made off with €9 million ($9.6 million at current exchange rates) worth of diamonds — including Kardashian’s $4 million engagement ring — and other jewelry on Oct. 2.
Khloe Kardashian, sister to Kim, called the filing of charges a “kind of closure” and called the robbery a “disgusting act” in an interview with the Associated Press on Friday. Rich or poor, nobody deserves “anything to be taken from them,” she said.
