Los Angeles police turned the department’s investigation into an alleged sexual assault by WME agent Adam Venit against actor Terry Crews over to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office.
The case was presented Tuesday and is under review, D.A. spokesman Ricardo Santiago confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
LAPD opened an investigation into Venit in November after actor Terry Crews accused the WME agent of groping his “privates” at a party in 2016.
Crews sued Venit in December of last year. “Venit, upon his first meeting Crews, viciously grabbed Crews’ penis and testicles so hard that it caused Crews immediate pain in a blatant and unprovoked sexual assault,” read a complaint filed in L.A. County Superior Court on Dec. 4.
Venit was put on leave from the agency in the aftermath of the allegations. He has since returned to work after a one-month unpaid suspension. In a Jan. 30 court filing, the agency said, “WME decisively addressed and punished the conduct Mr. Crews alleges that Mr. Venit engaged.”
Since coming forward with his story, Crews has become an outspoken supporter of sexual assault victims. He wrote on Twitter after Venit’s return to WME: “SOMEONE GOT A PASS.”
The district attorney’s office is reviewing a number of sexual assault cases, including those against Steven Seagal and Harvey Weinstein, in the aftermath of the Weinstein scandal.
