A Newsweek cover portraying Hillary Clinton as “Madam President” made the rounds online this week, promoting a story about her “historic journey to the White House.”
The cover, which was not distributed, went viral because of one reason: Images of Clinton on the cover were released before Election Day and before votes were ever counted.
Many Twitter users responded to the special edition cover, claiming that it was proof that the media was working with the Clinton campaign to ensure her victory.
Newsweek commented on the cover on Tuesday via Twitter, saying that “2 special edition covers for 2016 election outcomes were produced by a Newsweek licensee, Topix Media, and not by Newsweek.”
According to Snopes, the cover was part of a set of two created in case of either a Clinton victory or a Donald Trump win, and an initial claim that only Clinton covers were created was false.
