“Friends and champions” are the words Uplift Family Services at Hollygrove used to describe Matt Bomer and Simon Halls’ relationship with the agency — hence the reason the married couple has been plucked to receive top honors at its upcoming gala.
Set for May 18 at W Hotel Hollywood, Bomer and Halls will be feted with the Ambassador of Children Award at the 6th Annual Norma Jean Gala presented by Houlihan Lokey. The event benefits Uplift’s behavioral and mental health programs that provide aid for more than 1,200 at-risk kids and their families in Hollywood and South L.A.
In making the announcement, Uplift officials noted that the two were selected for the honor because they “embody the values of the organization’s mission, share its passion to strengthen and support children in crisis, and advocate for those most in need.” Said Uplift Family Services’ regional executive director Elena Judd, “They are both committed to helping those who exist on the margins of our society, especially children, and I’m so thankful they support our work to do whatever it takes to heal the child — and strengthen the whole family.”

Bomer and Halls are parents to three boys, and in a joint statement, they mentioned the importance of their offspring. “Our family is the centerpiece of our lives, and we understand firsthand how important it is to provide each and every child with the tools they need to succeed,” they explained. “We are thrilled to be involved with an organization that fights so fiercely for this cause, and are looking forward to a wonderful evening of celebrating their work.”
Proceeds from the Norma Jean Gala support Uplift Family Services at Hollygrove’s privately funded therapeutic after school, summer and parent support programs. In addition to Houlihan Lokey, major gala sponsors include CB Technologies, RETS Associates, Bryant-Reichling Real Estate, the Johnny Carson Foundation and Paramount Studios.
