Matthew Broderick is joining The New Group’s production of Wallace Shawn’s Evening at the Talk House, producers announced Tuesday.
Scott Elliott directs the Off-Broadway staging, which begins previews Jan. 31 ahead of its Feb. 16 opening at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The limited engagement runs through March 12.
The ensemble drama — Shawn’s first new play in seven years — made its world premiere at London’s National Theatre in late 2015. Set in the gossipy backstage world of theater land, the dark political farce sees Broderick as Robert, a playwright who reunites with the cast of his under-appreciated masterpiece on the 10th anniversary of its opening night.
The two-time Tony winner joins a cast comprising Shawn, Jill Eikenberry, John Epperson, Larry Pine, Claudia Shear, Annapurna Sriram and Michael Tucker.
