Netflix has single-handedly turned N/Naka, a once under-the-radar 26-seat Japanese kaiseki outpost in Culver City where the 13-course menu costs $165, into one of L.A.’s toughest reservations. Chef ‘s Table, a docuseries by David Gelb (Jiro Dreams of Sushi) that featured the restaurant, debuted April 26. The Sony-adjacent N/Naka used to regularly have some open seats on weekdays; now, it’s booked solid two months out (three months on weekends), making it a more difficult table to land in town at the moment than the notorious likes of the industry-favored Bestia and Urasawa.
“It was hard to anticipate the impact,” says chef-owner Niki Nakayama. Sighs Gelb: “One of the side effects of doing a documentary about restaurants you love is it makes it harder to get into them.”
