Cuomo served three terms in office from 1983 to 1994. Often courted by Democrats to run for president, he retired from politics after being defeated by George Pataki in a bid for a fourth term. Cuomo is also the father of current New York governor Andrew Cuomo, who was sworn in for his second term today.
At his inauguration, Gov. Andrew Cuomo made reference to his father’s ill health.
