During Oscars weekend, Nicole Kidman, Maria Shriver, Eddie Redmayne, Laura Dern, Matt Bomer and Gina Rodriguez will co-host the third annual Gold Meets Golden luncheon blending sports with entertainment on Feb. 21 at the Equinox Sports Club Lounge. Proceeds from the benefit will help fund the 7,000 athletes participating in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games.
Shriver is excited to continue the legacy of her mother, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
“I am inspired to join with those who want to make a difference for the 7,000 Special Olympics athletes competing in the World Games this summer,” said Shriver in a statement. “I want to thank Gold Meets Golden for helping build the awareness that leads to acceptance and inclusion for all people with intellectual disabilities.”
Gold medal-winning Olympians and co-hosts Greg Louganis, Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner will join in welcoming athletes to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics which are being held from July 25 to Aug. 2. Kidman returns as host for the second time since the inaugural luncheon in 2013 where she expressed her love for aquatic sports.
Previous hosts of Gold Meets Golden include Keith Urban, Jon Bon Jovi, Kerry Washington, Sofia Vergara and Hayden Panettiere. In 2014, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Hemsworth, Seth Meyers and Apolo Anton Ohno wished the Sochi athletes well at the awards season bash.
