President Barack Obama will deliver a primetime address to the nation that networks will broadcast live Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
Obama has canceled his appearance on Sunday night at the Kennedy Center Honors, a ceremony the president traditionally attends. He will, however, deliver remarks with First Lady Michelle Obama at the Kennedy Center Honors reception at 5:05 p.m. ET from the East Room.
The announcement comes after the mass shootings in San Bernardino, Calif., on Dec. 2 that left 14 people dead and more than a dozen wounded.
The White House announced that President Obama will discuss the issue of terrorism in the U.S. and provide an update on the San Bernardino shootings. The White House website stated, “He will reiterate his firm conviction that ISIL will be destroyed and that the United States must draw upon our values — our unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and freedom — to prevail over terrorist groups that use violence to advance a destructive ideology.”
