The force was strong with Chinese figure skaters Xiaoyu Yu and Hao Zhang on Wednesday, when the pair skated to a compilation of Star Wars themes during the pair’s free-skate performance in Pyeongchang.
Yu and Zhang’s compilation track for the performance included “Luke and Leia” from the original trilogy and “Duel of the Fates” from the prequel trilogy.
Some Twitter users immediately identified the theme Thursday, with one writing, “There was skating to DUEL OF THE FATES my god so good.”
The force continued to be strong for China Friday night with the country’s two-time world bronze medalist Jin Boyang, competing in the men’s free skate to the Star Wars theme music as well. During a moment in his performance, Darth Vader’s signature heavy breathing could be heard. His medley track for the performance included “Cantina Band” from the original trilogy, “Guardians of the Whills Suite” from Rogue One and “The Throne Room/Finale” from A New Hope.
After the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, the International Skating Union made the decision to allow songs with lyrics on the ice, which has led to some popular choices in Pyeongchang, including songs from Ed Sheeran, Simon & Garfunkel and Coldplay.
Watch the galactic-themed performance at NBC.
