After making her debut at Coachella last weekend, Zella Day is more ready than ever to head back to the desert for weekend two.
“It was everything I had been visualizing; my dreams came true. It wasn’t too hot, my stage had a gorgeous view and I had the whole crowd singing along by the end of the show,” Day tells Pret-a-Reporter, recalling that moment she was on the Coachella stage for the first time. “I can’t believe how much I’m looking forward to the second weekend.”
As she hits the stage again on Saturday, hopefully she’ll be able to relive one of the most memorable moments from a few days ago. Shares Day, “My favorite moment was laying on the stage during the last chorus of the last song, kicking my feet up in the air. It was a moment of pure joy over what had just happened.”
Given that Day is now somewhat of a pro at the music fest, she advises this weekend’s festivalgoers to “leave that leather jacket that you think you need at home. The desert is plenty warm and everyone’s body heat is radiating through the field.”
Cruising through the artist village with my mama and stylist moments before stage call.
Since I was playing in the sunset time slot my makeup artist and I decided to play with the sun. We figured out a way to use adhesive and foil to coat the bottoms of my hands to reflect the light onstage. It was magic.
It doesn’t look like it in this photograph but I was the most nervous I have ever been before a show in this specific moment. Luckily I was wearing a shirt that covered my back, because five minutes before show time I started breaking out in little hives from the stress.
Making sure my fishy headband was perfectly snug. Glass of wine and a chocolate bar not pictured.
We had to pull over. My friends and I saw my billboard on the way to the festival. Cars honking, people waving.
Galore party with hot pink cash. My feature came out just in time for Coachella. This party is one I barely remember.
First drink of the weekend. Bottoms up.
The climb: Deep breaths right before the stage.
The whole weekend full of music, people, sunshine, booze, all forgotten in an instant as the first song started. I was in my happy place at Coachella on that stage with the beautiful mountains painting the the sky. We did it.
