Robert De Niro has never watched The Sopranos.
The actor, who starred in multiple mob-related projects including The Godfather Part II (he won the best supporting actor Oscar for his role), Casino and Goodfellas, told Cigar Aficionado magazine in his September/October feature that he has never seen the HBO show, according to Page Six.
De Niro spoke one-to-one with Cigar‘s editor and publisher Marvin R. Shanken in the exclusive interview, which also addresses “his greatest roles, his business success and his contributions to the cinematic wielding of cigars,” according to Cigar‘s website. “I assume you watch TV,” Shanken said. “I’ve done quite a few interviews. I’ve never worked so hard preparing for you.”
“Not much, but it depends,” De Niro replied.
“Did you ever watch The Sopranos?” Shanken questioned. “No,” De Niro said.
“Interesting. So my next question … ” Shanken replied. De Niro then said: “I heard about it. It was very good.”
The David Chase-created Sopranos was on from 1999 to 2007 and starred James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco.
