Following the heart-breaking news that Michael Buble’s three-year-old son Noah has been diagnosed with cancer, he and his wife announced they are putting their careers on hold. Since the news broke, dozens of celebrities and fans have voiced love and support for the Buble family, the most recent coming from actress Shannen Doherty, who was diagnosed with breast cancer almost a year ago.
Doherty (Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed) is currently undergoing final rounds of chemotherapy treatments and was honored with the American Cancer Society’s Courage Award while attending the Inaugural Giants of Science Gala in Beverly Hills on Saturday (Nov. 5).
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the gala, she acknowledged her situation is different considering Noah is so young, but said, “I would imagine your child having cancer is devastating as a parent.”
She then offered words of wisdom for Buble and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, as they begin to fight the illness: “Just trust in your doctors,” she said. “Make sure you have amazing doctors, a great team and know that organizations like the American Cancer Society, Stand Up to Cancer, they are doing so much good for cancer.”
She added that because “[there is] so much research” now, that “we have much better chances.” Considering her encouragement to “stay positive” comes from personal experience, her final message for the family rings true: “That positivity, that outlook on life that you can get through something, it actually does get you through.”
