Shia LaBeouf’s anti-Trump project, which first launched in New York on Inauguration Day, has found a new home at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool, England.
Footage of a flag with the words “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” printed on it will live-stream around the clock on hewillnotdivide.us for four years, or the full-length of President Donald Trump’s time in office, in protest of his policies.
LaBeouf, along with co-creators Luke Turner and Nastja Säde Rönkkö, first launched the project on Jan. 20 by installing a live-stream camera at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. Passersby were encouraged to stop before the camera and participate by repeating the words “He will not divide us.”
The installation was closed down at the New York museum due to “serious public safety hazards” and moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in February. The Albuquerque live stream was taken down shortly after due to safety concerns, as gunshots were reported in the area.
Before arriving at its latest location in Liverpool, the project was moved again to an unknown location and changed from a participant-based live stream to video of a billowing flag. Trump supporters on online message board 4chan eventually found ways to track down the flag and replaced it with Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” hat earlier this month.
“Events have shown that America is simply not safe enough for this artwork to exist,” LaBeouf, Turner and Rönkkö said in a statement about the project’s recent relocation.
