A man in Los Feliz attempted robbery at three banks within a mile of each other Thursday afternoon, all in less than one hour, NBC Los Angeles reports.
According to LAPD Detective Bret Richard, the suspect first entered a Chase Bank on the 1600 block of North Vermont Avenue at about 1:00 p.m. He reportedly gave the teller a note, saying he had explosives in his bag.
But the first attempt was unsuccessful: the man left the first bank empty-handed and proceeded to try his luck at bank number two, after a quick wardrobe change. He changed his shirt from white to blue and entered a Bank of America at about 1:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of Franklin Avenue, police said. Here, according to reports, the suspect also gave the teller a note, but again did not leave with any cash.
At about 2 p.m., the man then reportedly walked over to his third target, the City Bank on the 1900 block of Hillhurst Avenue, where he was finally able to obtain an unspecified amount of cash before fleeing.
Following LAPD’s warnings of the attempted robberies, a Chase Bank nearby posted a sign outside their doors saying they were closed down.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
