Following a three-year hiatus, An Unforgettable Evening will return on Feb. 16 to honor Tom Ford and Judy and Leonard Lauder.
The event — a Saks Fifth Avenue-presented fundraiser for the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, a program of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation — will be held at Beverly Wilshire Hotel and hosted by Tig Notaro. A fitting choice, the comedian survived bilateral breast cancer and turned her harrowing personal journey into comedy gold with the infamous Largo Theater performance “Hello, I Have Cancer.”
Speaking of cancer survivors, Rita Wilson, who revealed that she beat breast cancer in 2015, serves as one of the honorary chairs for the event alongside husband Tom Hanks, Kate Capshaw and husband Steven Spielberg. The dinner and an awards presentation will see fashion designer and filmmaker Ford take home the Courage Award for his efforts in raising awareness for the disease, while the Lauders will be presented with the Nat King Cole Award for their charitable works and contributions.
Musical entertainment is expected to be announced shortly.
Previous Courage Award recipients include Kylie Minogue, Sheryl Crow, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Swank, Nicole Kidman, Stella McCartney and Sir Elton John. The Lauders follow in the footsteps of previous Nat King Cole honorees like Natalie Cole, Glamour’s Cindi Leive, Annette Bening, Carolina Herrera, Christina Applegate and Courteney Cox.
Co-founded by Anne Douglas, Quinn Ezralow, Marion Laurie, Kelly Chapman Meyer and Jaime Tisch, the WCRF has raised more than $70 million for research funding. An Unforgettable Evening is the flagship fundraising event of the organization, which supports research, education and outreach directed at the development of more effective approaches to the early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of women’s cancers. WCRF recently joined forces with the BCRF, which was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder.
