Producers Cassian Elwes, Fred Roos and Bobby Moresco are among Hollywood filmmakers going back to school to grade student short films for the 24th annual UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Film Festival.
The trio is among those on a panel that gathered at UCLA TFT on the Westwood campus Thursday with the task of curating eight to 10 student works to be showcased during the Directors’ Spotlight portion of the festival June 10.
Joining Elwes (Dallas Buyers Club) and Oscar winners Roos (The Godfather: Part II) and Moresco (Crash) are producers Marie Cantin (Collateral), Cotty Chubb (Eve’s Bayou), Paul Green (The Revenant), Rosilyn Heller (Who’s That Girl) and Shelby Stone (Lackawanna Blues); screenwriter Michael Miner (RoboCop); and director-producer Lawrence Trilling (Parenthood).
Former UCLA TFT students who have used the festival to jump-start their careers include Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black, Justin Lin, Shane Acker, Gil Kenan, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Justin Lerner.
The festival runs June 5-10.
