Hold onto your seat and watch out for that hippo: Jungle Cruise splashed into theaters and online on July 30, and the film is reportedly set for a sequel after surpassing the $100 million mark at the box office. Stars Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are expected to reprise their roles as English researcher Dr. Lily Houghton and wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff, respectively.
Inspired by Disney’s theme park ride of the same name, the film follows Lily, her brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall) and Wolff on a perilous and supernatural quest to find an ancient tree with magical healing properties. And as the action-packed, CGI-powered trailers suggest, director Jaume Collet-Serra’s big screen adventure from London to the Amazon is not for the faint of heart.
