When it comes to casting campaigns, Acne Studios has never been one to call on an Insta-girl of the Hadid/Jenner variety. (Past memorable campaign stars have included the 11-year-old son of creative director Jonny Johansson and a pair of Weimaraners.) But an Instagram sensation, on the other hand, is totally par for the course.
For the fall 2017 ads, the Swedish brand reached out to Kordale Lewis and Kaleb Anthony, an Atlanta-based couple whose Instagram photo showing the pair getting their daughters, Desmiray and Maliyah, ready for school went viral in 2014.
The pair, along with their four children, including their daughters as well as their sons, Kaleb Jr. and Kordale Jr., were photographed by Inez and Vinoodh in blue, red and green striped rugby shirts in a New York hotel room overlooking Central Park for the campaign, which also includes headshots of each of the children.
Said Johansson of the casting, “I’m obsessed with uniform clothing in families and I wanted to portray this phenomenon. I love those images of families dressing in the same outfit, and this new collection dedicated to the face motif also has a similar feeling of staple goods.”
He continues, “It is also a way of highlighting that while every family is different, we all have the same love and want the best for our children. There is no ‘normal’ family — all families are normal.”
Being fathers is getting our daughters up at 5:30 am making breakfast getting them dressed for school and putting them on the bus by 6:30 .This is a typical day in our household . It’s not easy but we enjoy every moment and eveny minute of #fatherhood . #proudfathers #blackfathers #prouddads #gaydads

Along with the photos, Kordale and Kaleb were interviewed by Xerxes Cook and spoke candidly about their backgrounds, their children (three are from Kordale’s previous relationship with a woman named Destiny; the youngest, Kaleb Jr., was conceived through artificial insemination and carried by Destiny) and their experience as an LGBT family of color.
“People tend to say ignorant things that can sometimes be offensive to people,” said Kaleb, “so I sometimes feel we owe it to people to educate others that we’re normal.”
