Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima will no longer bare all for “an empty cause.”
Lima made a post on Instagram on Sunday in which she lamented the pressures of her job and the idealistic standards to which she is required to conform. In the caption, she wrote that she was inspired to take a stand after a friend complained that she was “unhappy” with her body due to societal pressures to look a certain way.
“In that moment, I realized that majority of [women] probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/social media/fashion etc. imposed,” wrote Lima, adding that the stress was “not physically and mentally healthy.”
“I decided to make that change,” she wrote. “I will not take of my clothes anymore for [an] empty cause.” Lima did not specify what qualifies as an empty cause, nor did she clarify if she was refusing to pose nude or refusing to pose for sexier, lingerie-type photo shoots.
The 36-year-old has worked as a model since the late ‘90s, and is most well known for her commercial work for brands like Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated. She concluded her post with the hashtags #embraceyourself, #naturalissexy and #LOVEYOU.
I had received a call for the possibility of filming a sexy video of me to be posted and shared in social media. Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body, then it made me think…. that everyday in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job? And in that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/socialmedia/fashion etc imposed…. i thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that…. that’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change….. I will not take of my clothes anymore for a empty cause….. #Embraceyouself #natureisbeautiful #naturalissexy #LOVEYOU
