Former Miss World and Indian film star Aishwarya Rai and husband, fellow actor Abhishek Bachchan, are parents to a baby girl.
Bachchan announced the news on his Twitter account early Wednesday, writing, “IT’S A GIRL!!!!!! :-))))).” Bachchan thanked his well-wishers, updating his followers on his 38-year-old wife’s well-being several hours later: “Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Both Aishwarya and the baby are doing great and taking some much needed rest.”
He couldn’t contain his excitement, following up with: “And I’m trying my level best to get rid of this caffeine high and get some sleep too. Don’t think it’ll work. TOO EXCITED!”
Rai, one of India’s most well-known actresses, has appeared in several films, including The Pink Panther 2, The Last Legion and Bride and Prejudice.
The actress’ upcoming film, Heroine, was put on hold earlier this year due to her pregnancy. “At this point nothing is more important than Aishwarya’s well being and good health,” UTV Motion Pictures said in a statement. “In that context, we have all mutually agreed that the best step would be to avoid shooting further, rather than proceeding with an incredibly demanding schedule over the coming months.”
