Just when you thought Amy Schumer couldn’t get any more lovable, the actress pops up on the latest cover of Vanity Fair looking like a vintage bombshell and talking candidly about her female friendships, her soon-to-be-more-private romantic relationship and the shooting at a Louisiana theater showing her Golden Globe-nominated comedy Trainwreck. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the images are glamorous and cheeky — she straddles a gold rocket, for example, wearing a bustier — yet she also shows her serious side in the interview.
The shooting, she tells the magazine, made her think, “I wish I never wrote that movie. I just felt helpless and stupid.” Since that tragedy, Schumer and her senator cousin, Chuck Schumer, started the campaign Aiming for Change in support of gun safety legislation. It’s just one of many, many things on the Emmy winner’s plate.
Of course, the comedienne also allows readers a look behind the scenes of Inside Amy Schumer, her close relationship with her sister, and reveals just how good of a friend she is. Still close with her high school buddies, she got them all into the premiere of the final Hunger Games movie, and the night before one of her interviews, Schumer hosted her girlfriend after a fight with a boyfriend. “We got into a meatball sub and some scotch last night. Like, I’m not going to let her get drunk alone.”
Jennifer Lawrence also came up, naturally. In a video released alongside the VF interview, Schumer fact-checks quotes by her high-profile bestie. A couple reveals: Their mutual love of red wine is a “marriage made in heaven,” and Lawrence has urinated in a bidet. Oh, to be in a room with those two.
