The only thing more stylish than wearing head-to-toe Italian designer Brioni? Doing it while honoring a humanitarian cause. Held at rustic West Hollywood restaurant Eveleigh on Feb. 22, the Brioni and Vanity Fair event honored the work of two-time Oscar winner Paul Haggis, who established The Artists For Peace And Justice in 2009. The organization has successfully built the first free elementary school and high school for children raised in the slums of Haiti.
The filmmaker addressed the crowd of dapper Brioni-clad actors such as Armie Hammer, Idris Elba and co-host Pierce Brosnan. “Up until now if you were born in the slums [of Haiti] and were lucky enough to go to school, you could only go to grade six,” said Haggis of the APJ’s mission. “We opened grade 7 in October and we are rolling out grades 8 through 13 very shortly.”
Social Network’s Hammer admits that he only found out about the event that evening: “I actually had floor seats to the Lakers tonight and my wife was like ‘I have been getting ready for this event since 1 p.m. If you do not go to this, I will kill you in your sleep.’ So, I’m here tonight celebrating, and I believe In the APJ. I think the APJ is the future. The APJ is the children’s future.”
