Just when we thought Diane Kruger couldn’t top her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture aqua gown or her Vivienne Westwood show-stopper at Cannes, she stepped out for the closing ceremonies of the festival in an organza and lace Christian Dior Haute Couture full-skirted sheer tulle gown from the designer’s spring 2012 collection. The first-time juror paired the black-and-white plaid ball gown, under which she wore a dark slip dress, with Boucheron earrings and Dior pre-fall 2012 platform sandals, while carrying a mother-of-pearl clutch.
Model-turned-actress Kruger, who doesn’t work with a stylist, has always been a crowd pleaser on the red carpet. At the AmFAR party at the Hotel du Cap on May 24, her longtime beau Joshua Jackson marveled to The Vampire Diaries star and budding fashionista Nina Dobrev: “Diane only takes 45 minutes to get ready. I don’t know how she does it.” As Kruger put it in a February 2011 interview with Vogue UK, “I come from fashion, and who knows better what I like than myself?”
Her final dress capped off a string of looks that dominated the festival’s red carpets. After kicking off the fest in a Versace Versus lace-up cocktail dress followed by the Giambattista Valli gown, Kruger continued her appearances with Jason Wu, Chanel, Prabal Gurung and a beige-and-black full-length shift gown by Jenny Packham, who she wore to the Cannes Winners Dinner. Her dresses — many of which were shapely gowns and cocktail dresses — stood in contrast to 2011 juror Uma Thurman‘s statuesque, mostly body-hugging gowns.
