Alexander Wang’s Second Adidas Collection Is Here [Pret-a-Reporter Inbox]
The second, 14-piece installment of Alexander Wang’s collaboration with the Adidas Originals label is dropping this week. The first unisex collection was revealed at New York Fashion Week last September, and was a quick hit. The new offering of burgundy and navy tracksuits, crop tops, shorts and footwear will be available both at select global retailers on Wednesday and at Adidas Originals stores and Alexander Wang flagship locations as well as online on Saturday. Celine Joins Instagram, Ecommerce [Instagram/Glossy]
Better late than never? The LVMH-owned label Celine has officially joined the 21st century, simultaneously launching an Instagram account and announcing plans for their first foray into e-commerce by the end of this year. In 2015, CEO Marco Gobetti and creative director Phoebe Philo told The Wall Street Journal that avoiding both social media and e-commerce “gives more value to what we do.” But it looks like the times have changed. The brand has amassed 41,000 followers in less than 24 hours.
BCBG Prepares for Bankruptcy [Reuters]
Earlier this year, BCBG Max Azria, the Azria Group’s flashy Los Angeles-based label, revealed plans to close all 570 of its brick-and-mortar boutiques. Now, Reuters reports that the company is preparing to file for bankruptcy as early as next week. According to Reuters’ sources, there is also a possibility that licensing firms could buyout the brand’s assets in bankruptcy. In 2015, the brand restructured its debt and received $135 million cash infusion from investors; however, like many mall stalwarts, the company has struggled to keep up in the era of e-commerce and fast fashion. BCBG Max Azria’s parent company, Guggenheim Partners, declined to comment on the situation.
Luella Bartley Joins Calvin Klein [Business of Fashion]
Luella Bartley has joined Raf Simons team at Calvin Klein. The British fashion designer has been named the head of global design for Calvin Klein Jeans and will report to creative director Pieter Mulier — Simons’ second in command — and Franck Belochi, president of Calvin Klein Jeans Europe. In addition to running her own eponymous label for 10 years, Bartley was also one half of the design duo behind Marc Jacobs’ little sister line Marc by Marc Jacobs, which shuttered in 2015. She and fellow designer Katie Hillier launched the Hillier Bartley label at the end of 2015.
Maria Borges Is L’Oreal’s Newest Face [The Cut]
Angolan fashion model Maria Borges is the newest L’Oreal Makeup spokesmodel. The addition of Borges to the lineup is another positive step forward to increasing the diversity of the brand, which cast trans model Hari Nef as well as Xiao Wen Ju as ambassadors last year. Last week, L’Oreal’s U.K. branch launched its most diverse campaign to date in partnership with The Prince’s Trust to celebrate their new program, which aims to empower youth to be self-confident.
