After conquering our shoe closets, Christian Louboutin is making a play for our perfume trays, too. On Wednesday, the man behind the world’s iconic red soles announced his debut fragrance line.
Following in the footsteps of his famous shoes, Louboutin envisioned three distinct scents with a woman’s sensuality in mind. ”In a way creating these fragrances is like being a film director. Some directors want to control the acting process, others want to reveal the power of character and personality,” explained Louboutin in a press release. “This is what I try to evoke with shoes and now with the alchemy of fragrance. I want to give women the means to express themselves and to delight in their femininity.”
Retailing for $245/80ml each, the perfumes include the jasmine and tuberose-driven Bikini Questa Sera, a rose, sweet violet and cassis-tinged Tornado Blonde, and Trouble in Heaven, a provocative pairing of iris, patchouli, tonka absolute and amber.
For Louboutin, the packaging was as important as the fragrance. For that, he turned to British designer Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio (the same team who designed the 2012 Olympic Cauldron and the Seitz Mocha museum in Cape Town), who collaborated with Louboutin on a sculptural glass bottle that amplifies light and the color of the fragrance within.
The fragrance line is the latest addition to Louboutin’s blossoming beauty empire, which already includes lipstick and and nail-polish collections.
