Brothers Ennio and Carlo Capasa, founders of Italian fashion brand Costume National, are departing the brand they founded in 1986.
In a statement regarding his resignation as creative director and as a shareholder, Ennio revealed that move wasn’t necessarily a voluntary one. “I was hoping this would not happen. I fought with passion,” he said. “The emotions I feel at this time are complex and take me back across these thirty extraordinary years, at the remarkable encounters, at the many shows and at the amazing creative energy that the world of fashion gives us everyday.” Carlo also will step down from his post as CEO.
WWD first reported the news early Tuesday morning. According to the trade, Costume National is owned by Japanese company Sequedge Group, which went into business with the brothers in 2009. The company will take over operations immediately, and the brothers are free to pursue new business.
Most recently, the 30-year-old label was seen on both Kendrick Lamar and Miguel at the Grammys, but overall the brand has seen a bit of a drop-off in red-carpet looks in recent years.
Speaking with Vogue Tuesday morning, Ennio revealed he isn’t finish with the fashion world. “Despite the challenges of launching a new maison in this moment of acceleration, I look forward to new projects,” he said.
