The Dress: An optical-illusion gown with kimono sleeves, peplum details and serious color blocking from British designer Antonio Berardi’s fall 2013 collection.
The Wearer: People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful Woman” and GOOP goddess Gwyneth Paltrow. We wonder if she’s hiding macrobiotic snacks in those sleeves.
The Event: The April 24 Iron Man 3 premiere in Hollywood. Paltrow reprises her role as faithful secretary-turned-lover, Pepper Potts, but this time gets in on the action and even performs some of her own stunts (of course she does).
The Reason We Dig: It’s a good thing that Paltrow has the “butt of a 22-year-old stripper” (her words, not ours), as the fitness enthusiast’s curves made a covert appearance in Berardi’s sleek, modern confection. The highlight of the gown — which wasn’t shown on the designer’s fall runway and is actually a combination of two looks — are the sheer panels that run up the sides for a revealing teaser that manages a tasteful sexiness. But what we love more than the gown, however, is Paltrow’s undeniable confidence and radiance. The dress might have been a show-stopper, but for us her smile was the real star. And in case you’re wondering, there were no known wardrobe malfunctions (even if there were, we imagine GOOP would have an organic-cotton thread sewing kit ready to go).
