Velvet, fashion’s (current) favorite fabric, has moved from the runway to the red carpet.
Not long after Victoria Beckham and Sies Marjan showed the must-have material for spring, the stars took a cue from the catwalk and showed up in various shades of the velvet at the Emmy Awards on Sunday.
Kathryn Hahn stepped out in an emerald green velvet gown with a deep-v neckline and metallic lace details from designer Emily Brady Koplar’s line called Wai Ming (“gift of light” in Chinese). Since launching her line at high-end specialty boutiques in 2012, Koplar’s designs also have been seen on Ellie Kemper, Katharine McPhee and Ashley Benson in the past.
Making her debut on the Emmys carpet, Tori Kelly opted for the luxe textile in the form of a black mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline from Paule Ka’s fall 2016 collection.
The stars weren’t the only ones to be drawn to the season’s “It” textile — stylist Brad Goreski also arrived in a velvet purple tuxedo blazer.
Despite the heat in Los Angeles, nothing seems to stop the industry’s top talent and insiders from breaking out the velvet.
The 68th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, airs live on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on ABC.
