Frank Ocean caused quite the social media stir over the weekend when the rapper performed his Panorama Music Festival set donning an anti-discrimination statement tee screen-printed with the phrase, “Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic when you could just be quiet.”
The shirt is designed and made by small internet business Green Box Shop, an e-commerce site that prides itself on selling sustainable/environmentally friendly positive-image shirts and accessories to the millennial public. Sometimes, Green Box Shop even donates proceeds of each piece to an organization relating to the statement on the shirt; for example, 50 percent of the proceeds from their “Climate Change Is Real” shirt is donated to the Honeybee Conservancy. And while the price is shocking — a mere $18.99 — what’s even more striking is who’s behind the company: 18-year-old Kayla Robinson and a whole group of proud, courageous, social media-savvy teenagers, including a few assorted cats.

Robinson and her team also used social media to source the now-famous quote, which they directly credit to a young man named Brandon who tweeted it in August 2015. Since then, the tweet has received over 25K retweets, was printed on a viral t-shirt sure to sell out and was worn by — oh, yeah — Ocean.

In a statement to Complex, Robinson said, “It’s very exciting to see a queer icon like Frank Ocean giving a voice to marginalized groups and using his platform to raise awareness about social justice issues using one of our shirts. My business is essentially my life message. I want other companies to know that they can use sustainable/environmentally friendly business practices (fair trade and/or organic fabrics) and still thrive as a business. The fact that Frank Ocean is contributing to this reality is surreal for me and I am eternally grateful.”
