Looks like there will be one less Hadid appearing in the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Gigi Hadid, who made her debut for the VS fashion show in 2015, announced Thursday that she won’t be heading to Shanghai, where the show is taking place this year.
“I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year,” she expressed on Twitter. “Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!!”
I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!! Can’t wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show I know it will be, and already can’t wait for next year! 🙂 x

It’s unclear why Hadid is unable to make it, but if there’s any indication, she may have been denied a Chinese visa like some of her fellow catwalkers. Ukrainian model Dasha Khlystun and Russian models Irina Sharipova, Julia Belyakova and Kate Grigorieva are among the models to reportedly be denied a visa to travel to China, reports Fashionista.
Though Hadid was expected to walk the VS Fashion Show, she wasn’t necessarily welcomed by the Chinese people. After she announced in August that she would be participating in the show, the 22-year-old was reportedly met with angry comments on Instagram — so much so that it prompted her to disable her comments on that post, according to Buzzfeed. Some of the comments called her a “racist,” which was likely a reference to that time her sister, Bella, uploaded a video earlier this year that showed Gigi squinting her eyes to look like a Buddha-shaped cookie. That could have possibly played a role in her ban from China.
The VS models aren’t the only ones having difficulty with the Chinese government. Page Six reports that the media is having trouble getting visa approval and permission to shoot outside the show’s venue. (Sounds like a logistical nightmare.)
Meanwhile, Bella is expected to hit the VS runway, along with Lais Ribeiro, Jasmine Tookes, Lily Aldridge and Sara Sampaio. “I am so excited! Can’t wait to see you Shanghai!!!!” Bella captioned Wednesday on Instagram.
The VS Fashion Show is set to air Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
