On Thursday, Hollywood’s Hispanic stars took to social media to reveal their support for Latina Equal Pay Day by posting images of themselves in a t-shirt labeled Phenomenally Latina. The posts included factions about pay disparity among the Latinx community and the purpose of the t-shirt.
Actress and activist Eva Longoria in her post mentions how education is the way to create change: “Today is #LatinaEqualPayDay! The average Latina makes 47% less than the average white man, but 66% of American workers recognize this pay gap as unfair,” said Longoria, “Education is the first step towards making a change — get the facts from new research by @SurveyMonkey & @LeanInOrg. #47PercentCounts #LatinaEqualPay”

According to LeanIn.org, Latinas living in the United States on average make 47 percent less than white men and 31 percent less than white women.
Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez also took to Instagram to reveal more facts from the LeanIn Latina Equal Pay survey saying, “Today is #LatinaEqualPay Day, Latina workers on average only get 53 cents for every $1 a man is paid. The gap has widened since last year, and for some, it’s even worse.”
The Golden Globe winner also revealed what the Phenomenally Latina t-shirt benefits in her post.
“This is an injustice and there’s still so much work to do for Latinas to be treated equally. Me and my sisters at @timesupnow support Latina equal pay! #phenomenallylatina @phenomenal.ly t-shirt proceeds benefit the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health,” continued Rodriguez who is a supporter of the Time’s Up movement.
The Phenomenally Latina t-shirt is part of the Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign, which supports and helps raise funds for a variety of women’s rights organizations, including the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH). According to the institute’s website, the NLIRH is dedicated to advancing health, dignity, and justice for the Latinx community.
The shirt takes its name from the famous Maya Angelou poem, “Phenomenal Woman.”
