Glenn Close and Tyra Banks will receive Matrix Awards for their achievements in the communications industry.
The 2012 Matrix Awards is presented by the New York Women in Communications Foundation, which provides financial support and mentorship to women in the field.
The group will honor Close for co-founding the website Bring Change 2 Mind, which aims to erase the stigma of mental illness, and Banks as CEO of her entertainment company Bankable Incorporated.
Among the other honorees: NBC’s Today show co-host Ann Curry; movie producer Maria Cuomo Cole; Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan; Gayle Butler, executive vice president of Meredith Creative Content; Laura Desmond, CEO of Starcom Mediavest Group; Zenia Mucha, chief communications officer at The Walt Disney Company.

“We are pleased to recognize these eight extraordinary women for their remarkable achievements in communications,” said Catherine Mathis, president of New York Women in Communications. “These individuals, from top executive at worldwide corporations to award-winnign journalists to global humanitarians, truly emobdy the Matrix Awards theme — Women Who Change the World and we look forward to honoring them in April.”
Close, meanwhile, could scoop up some other awards in 2012, too. She’s up for a Golden Globe for her starring role in Albert Nobbs, and among this year’s Oscar contenders for adapting the screenplay with John Banville.
