Gwyneth Paltrow’s quest for natural beauty remedies knows no bounds. From vaginal steaming to drinking moon dust, there appears to be no limit (either in price or pain level) to the actress’ search for the next best thing.
In an interview with The New York Times, the Gooper revealed that once upon a time, she paid money to be stung by bees.
No, this is not a belated April Fools’ joke. Paltrow tells Bee Shapiro that she voluntarily subjected herself to bee stings in a process called apitherapy, which is commonly recommended as a natural treatment for arthritis pain.
“It’s a thousands of years old treatment,” she says. “People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It’s actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it’s painful. I haven’t done cryotherapy yet, but I do want to try that.”
To recap, bee stings and cryotherapy — a treatment during which the body is subjected to subzero temperatures — are all within Paltrow’s comfort zone. So, where exactly does she draw the line?
“I just heard of a service called a sound bath, which might be too hippie-ish even for the likes of me,” she admits, speaking of the trendy meditation service in which people lie on their backs and “receive” the sound of gongs. “It’s some new healing modality. I might not be able to handle it.”
Now we know.
