Gwyneth Paltrow, walking wellness encyclopedia/makeup-free pioneer, has given us, the people, so much in her 44 years on this Earth.
She introduced us to vaginal steaming and helped us find where to buy the perfect 14k gold dildo, and — my God, she brought the concept of “conscious uncoupling” into our everyday lexicon, and to be honest, we’re all the better for it.
But in her latest interview with Harper’s Bazaar, conducted by Sam Bee of TBS’ Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, the notorious over-sharer shared that her first dealings with fame almost turned her off from revealing different parts of her life, as doing so invites unwanted scrutiny.
“When I was starting out, I would get printouts of what was being written about me that week. At first it was all good things, and then it started to turn. I very quickly learned, ‘This isn’t good, this isn’t helping me,’” Paltrow dished to Bee. “These were strangers, and they were opining on anything in my life, from where I ate dinner to what movie I chose to do to who I was dating, and I was just like, ‘This isn’t going to be beneficial to my process as a human being in this lifetime.'”
Paltrow, who was photographed by Alexi Lubomirski in all-black eveningwear in a florescent-lit grocery store for the “sexy” issue, thus took the narrative into her own hands with goop. In the interview, she also announced that a new clothing line, goop Label, will debut soon.
Like all Paltrow interviews, this one was not without its juicy tidbits. For example, the actress divulged that she believes her daughter is “super ballsy,” she can’t go to bed knowing there are dishes in the sink and when she was 27 years old, her dad (legendary director Bruce Paltrow) told her she was “getting a little weird” in the midst of her post-Oscar fame. “You’re kind of an asshole,” he said to her.
