It’s hard to believe, but even Helen Mirren felt insecure about her figure as a teen.
“It was the time of Twiggy, and I did not look like a twig. My cheeks were too fat, legs were too short, breasts too big,” says the dame, who covers Allure‘s September issue.
Now, age 72, Mirren is more confident than ever. That’s why the L’Oreal ambassador would rather not have the word “anti-aging” as part of her vernacular. “This word ‘anti-aging’ — we know we’re getting older. You just want to look and feel as great as you can on a daily basis,” she tells Allure‘s editor-in-chief Michelle Lee, who notes that the beauty magazine is banning the term from its coverage moving forward.
Mirren doesn’t want anyone treating her like her age, either. “If people treat me like the age I am, I get absolutely insulted, really cross. I hate when people give up their seat for me,” says Mirren. “No, no, no. I don’t want your seat.”
The Oscar-winning actress doesn’t plan to slow down any time soon. She even hopes to live until she’s 150 years old, mainly to see how technology advances, noting, “I still haven’t quite gotten over GPS. What did we do before? I can’t get over seeing my little blue dot, especially when I’m walking.”
