ENGAGEMENTS: Alexander-Starling: Emmy-winning journalist Peter Alexander proposed to fellow journalist Alison Starling on July 30 beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The couple met in 2001 while working at competing Seattle news stations but didn’t begin a courtship until both moved to the East Coast. The New York-based NBC News correspondent, whose reports appear on Today and Dateline, and his fiancee, co-anchor of ABC’s Washington, D.C., nightly newscasts, are planning a spring wedding.
WEDDINGS
Project Runway judge and designer Michael Kors and his longtime love, Lance LePere, obtained a marriage license in New York on Aug. 3. Kors and his former intern plan to wed privately.

DEATHS
Elliott Kozak, a producer for Bob Hope for more than three decades who also served as the comedian’s agent and manager, died July 23 in Tarzana. He was 80.
Grease actress Annette Charles died Aug. 3 in her Los Angeles home. Charles, who played Cha Cha in Paramount’s 1978 film, was 63.
Actor Francesco Quinn died of a heart attack Aug. 5 in Malibu. The 24 villain and son of Oscar winner Anthony Quinn was 48.
Football star and actor Charles Aaron “Bubba” Smith was found dead Aug. 3 at his L.A. home. Smith, famous for his roles in six Police Academy comedies, was 66.
