Clint Eastwood was feted and generally revered at two mega-wattage events, the AFI Film Festival premiere of his new J. Edgar and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s inaugural Art + Film Gala. Following the AFI screening at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Eastwood’s cast — including Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts — plus Warner Bros. Pictures president Jeff Robinov and producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard congratulated the 81-year-old legend at an afterparty at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two nights later, Eastwood was honored for his contributions to cinema by LACMA, which raised $3 million to help fund film-related programs. Said Leonardo DiCaprio, the gala’s co-chair, in introducing his J. Edgar director: “In Magnum Force, Dirty Harry said, ‘A man has got to know his limitations.’ … It’s obvious that Dirty Harry never ran into Mr. Clint Eastwood.” Case in point: Eastwood hung out with DiCaprio until midnight at the LACMA party, clearly enjoying the moment. — Merle Ginsberg and Ramona Saviss
