Relativity Media president Dana Brunetti says sleep is the key to staying healthy, so during awards season he does it “as much as possible.” Easier said than done. To promote shut-eye, seven-time Emmy winner Allison Janney turns to hot baths with Young Living essential oils — Lavender, Peace & Calming and Valor are her staples. Constance Zimmer, Emmy nominated last year for UnREAL, relies on melatonin, specifically USANA’s Pure Rest. “I can’t recommend it enough.” TV writer Sheila Callaghan, nominated for Shameless, increases her anti-anxiety medication during awards season. “Coming from a playwriting background, high-glamour Hollywood stuff is still new to me, and I get quite overwhelmed by it.” She tried Ambien, “but after my husband found me naked on all fours talking to the birds, I figured it was time to stop. Now I open my meditation app and hope for the best.”
Zimmer got through the season with a lot of naps, “because of all the nights you’re going out yet still getting up to take your kids to school.” Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road) also relied on power naps. “And matching [glasses of] wine with water,” she says. Top Chef‘s Padma Lakshmi can’t nap, she says, but does work from bed at the Chateau Marmont. “I just find that being in cozy socks and comfy clothes is a welcome change from the stilettos.” Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon uses Nurse Jamie’s Beauty Bear age-delay pillow — a memory foam cushion that gives users a calmer, deeper snooze (NurseJamie.com). But sleep isn’t a struggle for everyone. Rob Lowe, who got his first Golden Globe nod in 1984 (for TV movie Thursday’s Child), admits, “If sleeping were an Olympic sport, I’d be Michael Phelps.”
