There’s only one cure for the doldrums following a long weekend of binge-eating, binge-watching and binge-shopping: giving back! (Well, that, and a decent nap, probably.)
This Tuesday, several A-listers are participating in #GivingTuesday, a global event that encourages consumers to scratch that spending itch by donating to charities and nonprofits near and dear to their hearts. Founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to the commercialization of the Thanksgiving weekend’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping extravaganzas, Giving Tuesday has been gaining steam over the past two years. Even more “commercial” retailers are getting in on the giving spirit — Macy’s is donating to the Make-a-Wish foundation and Nordstrom is donating shoes to kids in need.
