While reflecting on the past year, Jonathan Van Ness revealed on Instagram that sometime in 2020, the Queer Eye star married “best friend” Mark Peacock.
After musing about the “year unlike any other” and looking back at political activity and what would turn out to be Van Ness’ “last standup show for who knows how long,” the TV star wrote, “I got married to my best friend & have a loving partner to continue building my life with.”
Although Van Ness didn’t tag or name his husband in the post, the Queer Eye star did include a photo of the two of them in cream-colored jackets and internet sleuths ascertained that Van Ness married Peacock, with the former London resident writing on his own Instagram account that he “got married to my soulmate and one true love @jvn.”
Like Van Ness, and so many others, Peacock indicated that he felt that 2020 was tumultuous. The pair separately recalled weekly Zoom quizzes and adopting a dog named Pablo. Meanwhile Van Ness also recalled tumbling with Simone Biles and missing his friends, loved ones and the Queer Eye community.
“For all the hardships this year I do think our country is taking steps to heal and as painful as it is I’m hopeful for our future,” he wrote.
Peacock, meanwhile, shared that he learned “to drive on the left,” after his move “across the Atlantic” and “re-discovered a love for gardening.”
“2020 brought so much pain and sorrow for folks that’s in so many ways heartbreaking to see but I sure do hope some of the love I’ve found this year can make its way into the world in 2021, 2020 might almost be over but it sure won’t be be forgotten. 2021, I’m ready for you,” Peacock wrote.
Van Ness’ Queer Eye co-stars cheered the news, with Bobby Berk commenting, “Yay!! That was a hard secret to keep!! Love you Mark and Johnny!”
Karamo Brown and Tan France wrote that they hoped they could finally celebrate the marriage in public.
